My video card seems to have crashed and died. I can't even boot up without weird colors and patterns plastering themselves all over my monitor. I've got a spare that I can use to browse the web with, but that's about it.

So, I'll be out for a few days until I can figure something out.

did u check to see if the fan on your video card was turning?

make sure it was seated properly and that the power cables were connected fully?

if you smell the video card (yes i said to smell it) does it smell burnt? like burnt toast

is there a much darker area on the video card vs the overall color

and lastly are any of the capacitors and chips discolored

If your computer has one run the diagnostic program from before ur computer actually starts.

If none of those apear to be apparent then its still possible ur vid card is fucked but it may be an instalation issue seating issue, compatability with a recent update, unfortunatly with computers theres a million things that can do wierd things to stuff.

Im not sure what kinda vid card ur running but i have i THINK, an hd 2200 pro that im not using.

oh, one more thing aaron, it could be your power supply dieing.

Depending on what video card you had, to the one you replaced it with.

The video card needs a certain amount of power, the higher end ones are connected directly to the PSU, if the PSU is failing it may not pump enough power into ur vid card, so switching to the crappyer vid card may just reduce the amount of power needed and thus is OK.

What kind of Card do you have?
Is the fan spinning?
What brand and model is your PSU ?

Can you provide pics of your video card front and back?

Describe the problems in more detail please, do you see white dots, or more like the normal image but odd patters on top of it?
If so you have a memory error.

When you POST do the video errors show up?
Can you enter the BIOS and do the menu's show up without error?

Have you tried underclocking your Video Card and booting windows with the underclocked setting?

What is your Video Card temp?
GPU-Z can read it if your GPU supports this feature:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/GPU-Z/

What is your CPU Temp?
CoreTemp is a great monitor
http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

If Possible can you provide LOAD Temps along with Idle temps?

Can you run a stability test program like Intel Burn Test?
http://downloads.guru3d.com/IntelBurnTest-v2.0-download-2047.html

If your CPU passes this its not your Power Supply
Also posting full system specs will help.

yes i did talk to you on STEAM but once again DO NOT BUY THAT CARD
The price is a rip off that they want for an ancient card.

FYI the 8800 / 9800 / 250 series cards from nVidia are all the same card re-branded.
So not only is that card very $$$ its old. nVidia also has a problem with making them and they have a high failure rate. Google "nVidia bad bumps" and see how bad this is.

Yes, what he said.

But so I ordered one on Newegg, and so it'll be like another three or four days before I can get back on tf2.
